2008 SUMMER

Gallery Experience
Painting 1, 2, and Advanced
Chris Fulmer

Go to one of the following galleries(or the ones listed in your syllabus):: Make sure that you are aware of the times and days the locations are open. If you are choosing a gallery, go to the website first to make sure that paintings will be on display.

Galleries generally do not require an entrance fee or parking fees.

Museums often charge to get in and some (Nasher, DMA) also have parking fees. Museums often have free evenings (usually Thursday) each week.

Please read "Conduct in a Gallery."

Pick out one painting for closer observation. Do not use one on the web site.

Answer these questions or use the worksheet in your syllabus -- you may just make a list and use phrases next to the words if you wish. Full sentences and paragraphs are not necessary. Additional sketches are OK if that helps explain your answers.

            1. Draw a sketch of the artwork.
            2. Explain the painting TECHNIQUES the artist used to create the piece
            3. What kind of paint was used?
            4. What type of surface was used (paper, canvas, panel, etc.)
            5. Describe the STYLE which the artist used.
            6. What made you pick this painting?
            7. What surprised or pleased you about visiting the gallery.

Attach documentation that you attended: a brochure, a postcard, a photo of yourself in front of the gallery......

Due by the Final Critique on the last day of class.
