Drawing 1 Sketchbook Assignments

Each set of sketchbook drawings is 16 pages. Students are encouraged to use and experiment with a variety of drawing materials. Use real life, not photos, as your source. It is important to listen in class for additional specific refinements of the assignments listed below.

Each sketch should be cropped with lines so that its composition is evident.

Using felt-tip marker or pen and ink, make simulated and abstracted textures based on objects from nature -- shells, flowers, bones, or bark. 8 drawings.

Use frottage as the beginning for 4 drawings.

Start with a photocopy, finish in the media of your choice. 4 drawings.

Complete a set of 8 drawings each using the same object(s). Demonstrate your ability to illustrate the subject in a variety of ways: media, abstraction, types of lines, values, etc.
